The Best Enzyme Supplement

And Why You Need Enzymes!

best enzyme supplementYour body depends on a constant series of millions of chemical reactions to function, survive and thrive. But without enzymes, your body would be unable to complete these reactions, or at least, would complete them far too slowly to keep you alive.

Enzymes are specialized proteins that serve as catalysts to speed up the chemical reactions in your body (which occur at a rate of hundreds of thousands every minute!). In other words, they make them happen much faster than they would otherwise.

Enzymes are absolutely essential to life, and they are involved in a staggering array of biological processes, including the following:

  • Healing wounds
  • Regulating hormones
  • Helping your body absorb oxygen
  • Producing energy
  • Helping your cells absorb nutrients
  • Flushing away wastes
  • Breaking down food

The Three Basic Types of Enzymes

While your body has thousands of different enzymes, most of them fall into one of three main categories.

1. Digestive Enzymes

In your digestive tract, enzymes convert the food you eat into small molecules that your body uses as fuel. Amylase is an example of a digestive enzyme that breaks down starch; protease, also known as proteolytic enzymes, is a name for multiple enzymes that break down protein and much more, and lipase is an enzyme that breaks down fats. Other enzymes, such as maltase and lactase, help to convert certain sugars into glucose while an enzyme known as renin helps you to digest proteins specifically found in milk.

2. Metabolic Enzymes

These enzymes exist inside your cells, where they work to keep your cells, tissues and organs functioning. Metabolic enzymes are involved in such important biological processes as keeping your heart beating, building bones and healing wounds.

3. Food Enzymes

Certain enzymes can be found via your diet, primarily in raw foods. These enzymes support the work of your digestive enzymes, helping to break down the foods you eat. Since your pancreas must produce your digestive and metabolic enzymes, consuming food-based enzymes helps to take some of this burden off your body.

Some experts, such as Dr. Edward Howell, believe that you are born with a limited supply of enzyme energy, and if that enzyme-producing potential runs out, health problems can develop. Replenishing your enzyme supply with foods or supplements thereby helps you to avoid exhausting your inherent enzyme potential.

Proteolytic Enzymes Work Systemically to Fight Inflammation and More

Also known as proteases, proteolytic enzymes are a type of digestive enzyme that help digest animal proteins. But, far more than this, proteolytic enzymes can migrate to other parts of your body, such as your bloodstream, where they literally seek and destroy other protein “danger zones,” like cancer cells’ coatings, scar tissue, hardened proteins and blood vessels packed with fibrin. These powerhouse enzymes work systemically to fight inflammation in your body.

As a leading cause of diseases ranging from heart disease and cancer to rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes, and a leading cause of pain, curbing chronic inflammation is key to maintaining your health.

Proteolytic enzymes have an unsurpassed ability to fight chronic inflammation and underlying pain, operating on a “lock-and-key” basis, which means they can recognize good prostaglandins from bad prostaglandins (prostaglandins are hormone-like substances involved in inflammation).

When proteolytic enzymes’ teeth fit into a ‘bad’ prostaglandin that’s already run its course and has no more use, they dispose of it to let the GOOD prostaglandin come in and get rid of the pain. Plus, these enzymes work throughout your entire body to help it fight inflammation … dissolve scar tissue … cleanse and thin your blood … even boost cardiovascular, respiratory and immune function. One proteolytic enzyme found in pineapple, bromelain, has also been found to fight cancer cells better than a chemotherapy drug,[i] while large doses of proteolytic enzymes have been used successfully to treat pancreatic and other forms of cancer.[ii]

Proteolytic enzymes are naturally produced in your pancreas, but your natural production declines with age; these inflammation-busters become largely depleted as you hit 40 and over. In fact, a newborn baby has 100 times more enzymes than an elderly person, and even a 20-year-old has double the enzyme levels of a 70-year-old. If you have blood-clotting disorders, chronic fatigue, high cholesterol, obesity or other chronic health ailments or even grey hair, these could be signs that you’re already enzyme deficient.

Replenish Your Systemic Enzymes With the Best Enzyme Supplement

best enzyme supplementEven if you eat a perfect diet, it’s difficult to boost your enzyme levels high enough. And if you don’t eat perfectly (including raw foods on a daily basis), the chances that your body is lacking in these crucial catalysts is even higher.
