Pain relief for lower back pain is available, you just have to educate yourself on all available treatment options and experiment with them since not all treatments work the same for every person suffering from back pain.

There are two forms of lower back pain: acute or chronic. Acute lower back pain is defined as a short bout of back pain lasting a few days to up to a few weeks. Chronic back pain is back pain that has lasted longer than a period of three months.

Trigger Point therapy is often overlooked as an important part of a lower back pain treatment program. If you suffer from lower back pain, you most likely have trigger points and they need to be corrected. Trigger Points are a type of muscle stiffness and they are the result of tiny contraction knots that develop in tissues and muscles when an area of the body is injured or overworked. Inversion Therapy is a 2,000 year old remedy for a multitude of ailments, including lower back pain. Inversion Therapy uses a device called an inversion table. In order to invert, you strap your ankles into the ankle device, gently lean back on the table and slowly use your body weight to tilt the table backwards to a degree that is comfortable for you. Once inverted, pressure is relieved off of the spine, allowing additional space between the vertebrae which oftentimes reduces and/or eliminates lower back pain.

Ice and Heat Therapy is a vital form of pain relief for lower back pain. As soon as you experience a bout of lower back pain, apply ice to the area for 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. Be sure to place a washcloth or other similar barrier, so the ice does not make direct contact with the skin. Repeat this for up to 72 hours. You can then switch to heat therapy which will begin to soothe and heal the inflamed and injured muscles in the lower back pain.
