She was going to sit and watch me jump, but as luck would have it she was invited to join us as there was one seat still open on the plane.
She said, “no, no, no” as she hadn’t worn sneakers that day – but they even had shoes she could borrow.
So she ended up joining me for the experience.
Since we were new to the sport we both did what’s called a tandem dive.
Basically, this means you’re strapped to an experienced instructor so you can focus on enjoying the experience.
The instructor who jumped with me holds five world records related to skydiving so I was quite comfortable with my tandem skydive partner.
Before we knew it we were 10,000 feet up in the air.
My instructor wanted to do a back flip out so that’s how we exited the plane.
The freefall was exhilarating, hitting speeds of around 120mph as we hurtled toward the earth.
Opening the chute, we glided through the air for several minutes…
An entirely different kind of fun than the freefall phase: peaceful, relaxing and enjoying a great view.
When we came in for the landing, we were supposed to land with our legs forward and glide in on our bottoms into the landing pad…
Kind of like you’re sitting on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you.
Only my instructor overshot the landing pad and didn’t raise his feet enough, so his feet grabbed the grass.
I’m not the largest person in the world – but this guy is like 6’5” and 250 pounds.
So picture landing on your bottom at 10-15 mph and this giant guy rolling forward onto your back and neck while banging heads together.
Don’t get me wrong. It wasn’t a huge crash. And the rough landing didn’t directly cause any serious damage.
But having all that weight suddenly hit my back, neck and head was enough to strain the muscles in my neck and upper back, leaving me with an incredibly stiff neck.
You might experience similar pain after a fall or car accident.
That’s why I wanted to share what I did to quickly relieve pain that might have continued for months.
Since heat helps relax tense muscles, the first day I used my far infrared heating pad two or three times.
Every night that week I soaked in our hot tub and used the (absolutely wonderful) far infrared heating pad as I went to bed.
Two or three times a day I used Rub On Relief® on my neck and back.
I also took 8 to 10 capsules of our Heal-n-Soothe® twice daily.
Do This to Save YOURSELF Months of Pain…
All of these treatments helped, but when you have an injury that seems to linger no matter what you do, it’s usually the result of trigger points.
Trigger points are miniature muscle knots. They get bound up and refuse to release until you find them and press them out. Only they’re notorious for occurring in one place on your body but referring the pain somewhere else.
It took a few days to find and release them all. But it likely saved me weeks or even months of lingering misery.
Since trigger points are microscopic and most doctors don’t learn about them in medical school, you’ll likely have to find a doctor, physical therapist or masseuse specifically trained in relieving them to get relief.

If you can get rid of them on your own it will help you improve your own level of pain without the extra medical expense. And it sure beats walking around in pain for months.
Oh, and don’t let my story scare you away from giving skydiving a try. Besides the fluke hard landing, it was a blast and I look forward to doing it again.
