Inversion Questions Answered and New Support Group

A few days ago I sent an email out about inversion therapy and we have been
getting tons of questions so I thought I’d answer some of the most common ones…

QUESTION #1 - Does inversion therapy help if you have neck pain?

Great question… yes, it can help if you are dealing with neck pain. With inversion,
everything from the ankle all the way up through the neck and head gets stretched
and pressure relieved.

Now, it’s important to point out that while you do get the benefits for the neck when
using an inversion table, there are other decompression devices out there that work
well but do not address the neck.

QUESTION #2 - I’ve had a hip replacement, can I do inversion?

That all depends… if you have had a “total hip replacement” it’s NOT recommended.
Same is true for a total knee replacement. In these situations you would want to use
an alternative like the “Back Bubble” (see next question below).

If you have had a partial hip replacement you should check with your doctor but we
have had many doctors say it’s ok.

QUESTION #3 - Are there other devices other than an inversion table that do
the same thing?

Another great question… yes, there are many devices out there but only a handful
that really work well. One of the best alternatives we’ve found to an inversion table
is a product called “The Back Bubble” and you can learn more about it here.

You can also look into traction which would be performed by a qualified doctor
or therapist. And another method that is being pushed by a lot of chiropractors
is the DRX9000. You can read more about it and other forms of decompression here.

Hi Jesse,

What You Can Learn About Pain Relief From Olympic Level Athletes

It’s an Olympic year, and there are at least three things you can be sure will be part of the Summer Games in Beijing: the Olympic torch, fierce competition…and pain.

Or the pain of being body-slammed by a Russian heavyweight in a Greco-Roman Wrestling match. We’re talking about the plain old kind of pain that many of us non-athletes experience every day.

No doubt, Team USA and the other national Olympic squads will have access to any and every kind of pain treatment available so they can stay in the game. And why shouldn’t they? After all, they’ve been getting up a 4 a.m. every day for years preparing for their moment in the sun.

But what about the rest of us occasional athletes who have to endure muscle and joint pains—many of them chronic—due to overexertion, injury, and conditions that result from the wear and tear the body undergoes as it ages, such as arthritis and fibromyalgia?

And don’t think that arthritis is just something that happens to old folks. It affects nearly one in five American adults—that’s 46 million people. Arthritis is second only to heart disease as a cause of work disability, and 7 million people have it so bad that they have difficulty with everyday activities such as walking, dressing, and bathing.

Here are my favorite ab exercises..

I’ve got 2 things for you today…

First, some tips I think you’ll really find helpful when it comes to
the abs and 17 different things you can do to improve the way
you look AND feel.

So, let me start with the abs…

Not sure why, but so many people seem to be almost obsessed
with “abs”. Caring more about abs than brains… glad you’re not
like that

While the mid-section is so important to your health and fitness,
how it looks isn’t nearly as important as how it functions. And
whether you are concerned with how it looks or how it functions,
or both, here’s what you need to know…

The primary function of the abdominal muscle is to flex your
torso forward.  However, there are also muscles that flex
your torso to the side and muscles that rotate your torso.

Often times you see people on their “ab-roller” every day
doing hundreds of crunches or sit-ups. What a waste of time!

If you want to effectively strengthen your stomach you need
to incorporate the following types of exercises:

* 1-2 forward flexion exercises (reverse crunch, knee raises,
crunch, sit-up, etc.)
* 1-2 side flexion exercises (side bends, side crunches, etc.)
* 1-2 rotational exercises (trunk rotations, standing twists)

Choose at least 1-2 exercises that target the lower abs,
1-2 for the obliques (love handles) and 1-2 for the upper abs.
