No one likes pain, yet we should be thankful for it. Pain serves a vital function in letting us know when something within our bodies is not quite right.
The problem is we often rely upon pain to direct our health choices instead of being proactive. A heart attack is often the first sign of heart disease most people notice, but then it may be too late. Severe back pain is typically the result of years of poor posture and inadequate exercise. Pain just brings these problems to our attention.
Everyone looks for pain relief when hurting. That’s why so many health product and service advertisements focus on pain relief. Truly effective products and therapies also focus on correcting the underlying issues instead of simply masking the symptoms.
Take a herniated disc for example. Traditional treatments might focus on anti-inflammatory pain relievers such ibuprofen. Reducing inflammation and relieving pain are reasonable goals, but will pain medicine correct the actual condition which caused the pain?
A better treatment plan combines relieving pain and inflammation with a targeted approach to improving or completely eliminating the unhealthy condition.
The best treatment plan is no treatment plan at all. In other words, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Continuing with the example of the herniated disc, one could greatly decrease the odds of injury by maintaining back health all along.
Proper diet and nutrition is always a cornerstone of good health. Correct exercise which takes into account your body’s current condition is very important. Good sleep habits form the third corner of the health triangle. Small steps bring important results.
The next time you face a painful condition be thankful you have the opportunity to recognize a problem. Then take the necessary steps to improve your health, not just your pain.
Looking for pain relief? You might just find it among the dozens of available alternative pain treatments. While the term may conjure up thoughts of new and unproven remedies among some, acupuncture has a track record of helping people for literally thousands of years.
Some in the traditional medical community seem to have dismissed acupuncture out of hand. Yet even the World Health Organization has officially published a long list of conditions acupuncture has been proven effective at treating.
Most acupuncture patients have less pain and are more functional at the end of a session. Since effects of acupuncture are often subtle to begin with it may take several sessions to make a significant impact, although some patients leave the first session dramatically improved.
During a session, anywhere from one to twenty needles are inserted into the body. Unlike hypodermic needles, acupuncture needles are solid, much smaller, and do not draw blood.
The needles are inserted at varying depths ranging from just resting on the surface of the skin to penetrating several inches deep into layers of muscle or fat. They are in place from 15-30 minutes and may be occasionally jiggled by the acupuncturist, warmed, or electrically charged to aid in the healing process.
Does acupuncture hurt?
The most common question about acupuncture besides “does it work” is “does it hurt”. Because the needles are extremely thin and used with precision, the act of inserting the needles is virtually painless.
While the needles are inserted it is not uncommon to feel a slight tingling or achiness, or even a slight electrical pulsing sensation in areas far from the insert point. These side effects disappear when the needles are removed at the end of the session.
What does acupuncture do?
Science is still trying to catch up with exactly how acupuncture works. But we do know that acupuncture can stimulate the body’s release of enkephalins and dynorphins which help relieve pain. Current research also shows that acupuncture activates a part of the middle brain which plays a role in decreasing pain response.

True Life Success Stories From
The Back Pain Sufferers Who Lived Them…
“My pain was intolerable, but the first time I tried inversion my pain almost completely disappeared!”
“In May, I herniated the L5-S1 disc. My doctor recommended drugs and pain management, but the meds made me sick and I had a several week wait to go to pain management. The pain was intolerable, and I was having a hard time being pleasant at work. Home was a whole other story! I was telling a neighbor about it, and she suggested I come to her house and try her inversion table. The first time I tried it, the pain down my leg almost completely disappeared.
“I borrowed her table and as long as I use it, I feel good. I have gotten better and better. I take Aleve when I do have pain, cancelled pain management and am my sweet old self at home and work. Since I couldn’t keep my neighbor’s table forever, I have purchased my own and have a couple of friends anxious to try it. I am sooooo happy. I am 60 years old and never expected to feel this well again.”

“Inversion therapy got rid of my sciatica pains!”
“I had terrible sciatica pains down my left leg. I bought your inversion table and after three ten-minute sessions on the table, my pain stopped. This was about five months ago. I have since recommended your table to many of my friends. I bought one, two months ago for a friend. I use it every time I experence any tension in my back.”
