Here's my problem, PAIN. I was in a car accident in 1981 where I crushed my pelvic bones, it left my left side about an inch shorter than the right. So I go thru all these years basically pain free. I guess my knees took the brunt of it, I just had knee replacement surgery done on both knees last year. Not even a month after the last surgery, I started experiencing a lot of pain. It is on my inner thighs, my butt feels like someone just kicked me, some lower back. It kinda sounds like Sciatica. I see my Doctor next week, I'd like to ask for a MRI and also back to physical therapy to learn some correct exercises to do. Any suggestions?

They always ask at the doctor's reception why you are there, and you have to
answer in front of others what's wrong and sometimes it is embarrassing.

There's nothing worse than a Doctor's Receptionist who insists you tell her
what is wrong with you, in a room full of other patients.

I know most of us have experienced this, and I love the way this old guy
handled it.

A 75-year-old man walked into a crowded waiting room and approached the
desk.
The Receptionist said, 'Yes sir, what are you seeing the Doctor for today?'

'There's something wrong with my dick', he replied.

The receptionist became irritated and said, 'You shouldn't come into a
crowded waiting room and say things like that.. '

'Why not, you asked me what was wrong and I told you,' he said...

The Receptionist replied; 'Now you've caused some embarrassment in this room
full of people.

You should have said there is something wrong with your ear or something and
discussed the problem further with the Doctor in private.'

The man replied, 'You shouldn't ask people questions in a roomful of
strangers if the answer could embarrass anyone.
The man walked out, waited several minutes, and then re-entered.

The Receptionist smiled smugly and asked, 'Yes??'

'There's something wrong with my ear,' he stated.

The Receptionist nodded approvingly and smiled, knowing he had taken her
advice.
'And what is wrong with your ear, Sir?'

'I can't piss out of it,' he replied.

I have been suffering with horrible nerve pain in my right foot for about two years. I was seeing a foot doctor (podiatrist) monthly and he tried custom orthotics, medication, a brace, one shot (but I think he put it in the wrong location). Then I went to a back dr who gave me four shots in my spine, piriformis muscle, facet joint because my mri showed spinal stenosis. I do sometimes get sciatica but none of these shots helped the foot. So now I have an appt with a foot surgeon because I think I have mortons neuroma. I also have severe arthritis pain in my right foot and my neck and I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia which I'm not sure I really have. Anyway, I was looking in the mirror today and I noticed on the right side of my neck if I held up my hand, from my chin to my shoulder was about 6 inches and only about 3 inches on the left side. What does this mean? Because I am crooked could this be causing all my pain on the right side. Would muscle imbalance exercises straighten me out. Should I see a chiropractor?

Greg, First off We are not Drs and can not give your medical advice on surgical Procedures and you must take any advice you get here or on the internet with caution.

Our point of view is that ALL non invasive procedures and techniques should be exhausted before even considering surgical procedures.

I would suggest that you get Jesse's book, the link can be found on the home page of the forum and that would be a good start...

I found a small site that explains a few back procedures but I am not sure which one will have the lowest impact on my L5-S1 bulging degenerated disc. Decompression did not really work so I am looking for other solutions. Could a Foraminotomy procedure be less obtrusive than going in and shaving my disc down like my doctor wants to do? My doctor wants to shave about 20% of my disc down. It looks like I might be a good candidate for this type of procedure but I need more information about it and what the recovery is like.

Do you have any suggestions of where to learn more?

Greg

I have very tight lower back muscles and they seem to have pulled my pelvis causing my left leg to be longer than the right. And my right hip to be higher than the left. I enjoy weightlifting, especially barbell squats. But after squats the IT Band on my left leg gets really sore. I have switched to single leg training and did reverse lunges for two weeks but to no avail as the IT Band on my left legs still hurts. The tight back and tilted pelvis is causing other problems such as cracking knees and neck. For about three weeks now i've been seeing a chiropractor but there has been no improvement, probably because he isn't focusing on the tightness in my lower back yet.

What can i do to help my situation and get back to doing what i love?

James, if you cut through all the mombo jumbo that means you have imbalances, and specifically imbalances in the position of the pelvis and that come from the imbalances in the muscle that control the pelvis, and that is what we have be helping people just like you correct since 2004 with our Muscle Balance Therapy System, I suggest that you get a copy of Jesse's book and read all about it,

PS it does not surprise me the Drs do not know what to do...

reading about another person having that scale test done is an eye opener to me. i had my second back surgery done almost a year ago and im not doing very well. a couple months ago a physical therapist did that same two scale test with me, im 6'2" and wiegh 210 lbs. that test revealed that i place 170lbs on my left and 30lbs on my right (10lbs was absorbed from me lightly holding examination table because i felt unstable). additionally in the last couple months my pain has been more-and-more frequently shifting from my left to my right low back and right leg. my pain is increasingly getting more intense despite the use of 60+ mg per day of oxycodone. my current doctors say there is nothing they can do to help me surgically and contend that pain management is my sole option. anyhow, i feel very hopeless and im concerned that the balance of my life will be racked with pain and significant physical limitations. should my concerns be elevated by the results of that scale test??

I'm having chronic knee pain...so I have done my first treatment of prolotherapy on my knee......

Can I continue to use inversion therapy immediately after two or three days after the prolotherapy treatment? Will inversion therapy loosen my ligament/tendon on my knee and render the prolotherapy treatment ineffective?

Hope someone can tell me.

re spinal fusion just updating my progress. i go to my doctor with the presence of new pain and he just say's it's my back. anti inflamorties make me sick and i don't which is worse the back pain or the upset stomach. i think the back pain is sciatica but he has finally requested an xray. i am also expierencing knee pain 2 years $5,ooo later that surgery was a long recovery and never great results i had to insist that it wasn't right and could he xray it which he did and promptly rang me to stop tsking celebreks which i hate and the arthritis has intensified rappidly and put me on tremal for pain in my knee and referred me to a specialist. still waiting to here since october. it's paining every night and the painkillers dry my mouth out so i'm trying not to take too many. isn't it amazing that they refuse to listen till its getting unbearable. anyway happy new years and keep posative things will improve. mystey

Hi Bob,

How are you ?

You have had your leg bone length difference measured and I wonder if anyone has tested you for muscle imbalances at all?

I don't have a bone length difference but had a High hip and forward tilted pelvis (with bad back pain and sciatica in both legs) and it was my muscle imbalances that were the root cause. What helped me most by far was the Lose the back pain system. You do assessments then have specific exercises to do to effectively correct the muscular imbalances and bring things back into balance. They also give excellent support through the program. Might be worth you looking into.

Also just check if surgery is absolutely necessary, perhaps see how you go with less invasive methods first and ask lots of questions about it and make sure you know what you can expect from it. Wishing you all the best.

Hello All,

My Story: First had back pain back in 2005. I bent over to get a towel and bam, went to the ground. Went to see a chiropractor, did nothing good on me, then got an MRI. I had L4/L5 bulge. I got some cortisone shots and felt better.

Over the last few years I have had flare ups from time to time. Then last November (2010), I slept on my couch and woke up the next morning feeling awful. I had another MRI, now it's an extrusion of L5/S1 and a bulge of L4/L5. All my Dr's believe its the L5/S1 causing the issue now.

I went to my dr and started on prednisone, it did nothing. Then one round of prolotherapy, nothing. Physical Therapy, Chiropractor, more prednisone, 3 rounds of epidural shots, etc, etc. Nothing is relieving the pain. Then just last month both my chiro and Dr recommended surgery. I just met with the surgeon last week. Talked with me for 10 mins (after keeping me wating for over an hour). He said I am the perfect candidate for surgery, and I would be feeling great when it was over, etc, etc.

With that said, I am so scared of surgery. I hear NOTHING but bad stories with back surgery. It's not like getting your knee worked on. It just seems to be a crap shoot.

Advice? I need it. But over one year of straight pain 24/7 is wearing on me. I work a demanding job, have a 3 year old, coach football...etc. All of these things are so difficult with back pain (as all of you know). I don't feel I am rushing into it, but I am so worried about it being worse afterwards, not sure what to do.

Thanks

I came across this topic today and I'm posting this although the last posting seems to be 2008.

I have been diagnosed as having a "high hip" This not a simple high hip because of other circumstances that I'll list. I hope to get some replies that will help me make the proper choices to (1) get rid of my back pain and (2) return my walking style to "normal".

My actual bone leg length difference is 3/4", rt leg being shorter. However, because of my tilted pelvis position, my "apparent" leg length difference is 5 cm...approximately 2". I have "fused" L5 and L5 joints and SI is continually a problem starting to cause numbness in my good left leg.

After chiropractic adjustmnets, my leg lengths come close to being correct...ie 3/4' difference. However, I cannot maintain this difference because the Psoas an Iliacus muscles seem to tighten overnite while sleeping and we start all over again. I would like to get to a point where the leg length diiferences are constant so I can then go in for hip surgery to correct for the last 3/4'.

Any help anyone can forward would be appreciated. I have includd my email so you can respond directly as well as to this site.

Thanks so much

I have been using an Inversion table purchased from the Healthy Back Institute for almost two months now as well as the exercise program and seem to be getting pretty good results. I will be going on vacation for a month or so and am considering purchasing a portable back stretcher to take with me. Has anyone tried these? If so, did it help? I realize it is likely not as effective as full inversion but did you feel it was a worthwhile alternative?

Thanks

hi rebeka,
just reading your post was like my results before i had spinal fusion 6 years ago. i am now suffering with lower backpain and knee needs a replacement. i have oestioarthritis in my hands and i'm finding it difficult to straighten once i've been sitting for a brief period it does really suck, but you just have to take each day as it comes. i don't think people understand back pain unless they have suffered with it themselves. i am still working but very exhausted at the end of the day, i don't do any exercise because my work is physical i'm too scared i won't be able to work if i do. but i do have times when i use a stationary bike and walk if i feel i can manage. this time of year is the hardest for me because i work at a toystore and do the restocking of the merchandise. my problem is i don't know when to stop and like things perfect, but i'm hoping i can let someone else do that next year and take things easy. i am waiting for word from surgeon whether i will get knee replacement or just partial i'm 52 and next year seems grim with a few operations coming up but i'm worried about my back issues and my doctor keeps saying that i have to live with it which may be true. i did try chiropractor but he just kept doing adjustments, not much result there. i'm going back to doctor tuesday and insist on an xray because after finally getting through with my knee, he must surelly realise i'm not just complaining. he was surprised at the results of my knee xray and if my knee is full of arthritis i'm concerned what is happening with my back could be from the arthritis too. i've had my thumb fused on my hand also. it is frustrating getting results.

I took an epidural injection last July 19 and after 3 or 4 bad days gave me significant relief until mid October. I took another injection November 29, 6 days ago, and havent noticed much relief yet. I am now cancerned I wont get any but how could that be since the first one worked pretty well?? It seems the positive effect should have kicked in by now.

I had another epidural injection 6 days ago but havent noticed much relief as of yet. Am concerned it will not have a beneficial an impact as the last injection. I guess maybe I did the wrong thing even bothering with it. Why would this injection not work where the last one 4 1/2 months ago worked pretty well??

I've been diagnosed with spinal stenosis in neck and lumbar region. I have spinal stenosis that flares up each time I vaccum with a huge knot that forms next to lower left spinal area. I just replaced my 2nd hip and feel like I'm in heaven! I've used the triggerpoint therapy with much success // looove the Far Infrared healing pad when needed // had some relief from inversion table (but can't use it now after hip replacement //looking forward to using the newer formula of Rub-on-Relief next week.
I purchased a Back Joy several years ago esp. for my computer chair (many hours /day), I took it to church AND ESPECIALLY to conventions where I knew I'd be sitting for 3 - 4 hours at a time with maybe one 15 min. break - and then all afternoon!
I absoulutely looooove the results I have with the Back Joy! I can sit at those conventions and not have my buttocks ache with pain from being flattened and the relief I get from no pressure on the sciatica or base of the spine is amazing!!! I don't tire out at all! I even have my friends try it out at break time and everyone of them feel a difference immediately and say they feel relief.
So keep trying it out in shorter time limits and build up - I pray it will work for you as well as it does for me.
