10 weeks into sciatica
Hi all,
I had a spasm in my right buttocks about 10 weeks ago on a Sunday. My leg pain became so severe that I was at my doctor at 8 am. He got me in by 9 am and diagnosed
sciatica, I got a steroid shot, prednisone series, Flexoril and Hydrocodone (lortab). I was in horrible, severe pain for two weeks. Then I had a day with less
pain, I got emotional thinking "it is finally going to end" Right about this time I had a second doctors appointment, it was one of my best days, and he seemed to think I was doing well. I was able to get back to work and during the next two weeks I had a little less pain every day. The fifth week I thought
I had it beat. Week 6 and 7 ok, the next couple of weeks, I'm getting numbness and tingling in my buttocks, and lower leg, some pain just towards the back of the outside of my thigh. I have a tight calf muscle, but only notice how tight when I stretch it.
Two days ago I stood on the edge of a step and lifted
myself up and down by tightening my calves. With my left leg I can do 20 fast full lifts. I found I had a difficult time lifting with my right leg. I can bearly
do 5 slow lifts and they are not as full. My right leg
should be my stronger more coordinated leg. It is getting difficult to sit on my right buttocks.
Anyway that's where I'm at 10 weeks in. The worst pain is gone but I still have on going problems.
Mike

Re: 10 weeks into sciatica
Hi Dave,
Sciatic pain can be very painful indeed. Has anyone assessed you for muscle imbalances?
You may like to have a look at these for information on things that may help:
Particularly have a look at he muscle balance therapy one. I had tingling, burning sciatic pain in both legs as well as low back pain and it helped me a lot- along with heat on my back, water therapy and some massage. Have a look and see what you think.
Wishing you feeling better soon.
