2 bulging discs with burning in both feet and legs
I just had an MRI and the radiology report shows I have two mild bulging discs at L4-L5 & L5-S1. These resulted from two runs around Thanksgiving (one 4 mile run and one 5 mile run). I have pretty intense burning that radiates primarly into my lower legs and feet (more in the left). It's much worse when sitting and quickly lessens as soon as I stand. I have little to no pain in my back but some discomfort in my right hip area. I've had about six physical therapy treatments with no success and then about 5 adjustments from a Chiropractor with no success. My medical Dr. suggested epidural injections which I'm hesitant about doing. I've read where an Inversion Table has helped some people and am considering buying one to try. I would appreciate any suggestions or comments on my condition and a potential cure. Thanks so much!

Re: 2 bulging discs with burning in both feet and legs
Hi BWR,
Sorry to hear about the burning pain you are experiencing. I got that along with my prolapsed discs(same discs as yours) and its not pleasant. Do you usually run regularly? Did any of the professionals you saw say what the root cause was of the bulging discs or mention muscle imbalances at all? You may want to read up on muscle imbalances and see if you think that could apply to you.
(If you read the post "New must read Back Pain Blog"-there are interesting articles on there which you may find useful to read)
I dont know what you are using for pain relief but I couldn't tolerate painkillers so I used heat on my back(heat pads or hot water bottle or even a shower or bath) which did seem to help me for a while to ease pain.
I also used "Lose the back pain system" which helped me such a lot and got me pain free when lots of other things I had tried did not. I wonder if you have considered that? Heres a link if you want to take a look.

Water therapy helped me as well so I used that alongside Lose the back pain. Would be good to look into Inversion as well.
Re the sitting, I got the same thing there, the pain being much worse when sitting for a while. Try sitting for only about 30 mins at a time when you have to. I preferred lying down when at home. Even now when I know I will need to sit for long periods at work I alternate between a physio ball, a normal but supportive chair and take regular standing/moving around breaks.
I hope some of this helps you. Take care.

Re: 2 bulging discs with burning in both feet and legs
Thanks much for the info and I'll try to answer your questions. I do run regularly but rarely more than two miles per run...seems like I can do that as many times per week as I want without an issue. Have had several professionals tell me that week muscles could be a big part of the root problem and I have read some about that. I'll read the blog as you suggested.
Don't like taking thing for pain but have tried the Gel Alleves without any impact.
I just purchased a Teeters F5000 Inversion Table over the weekend and have used it three times. Not sure how long that takes to make an impact.
Do you find yourself to be pain-free most of the time now?
Lastly, until my longer runs I had been pain symptom free for almost 4yrs and hope to get back to that point.
Thanks again for the reply.

Hi BWR,
How are you doing? Sorry I did not reply to you earlier i have had a lot of computer problems lately!
Anyway I hope you found the articles useful. You may want to particularly review the ones about muscle imbalances. How are you getting on with the inversion table?
To answer your question yes I do find I am painfree mostly now, I work and drive etc normally and do most things I want to.
In fact today I have been out gardening, raking leaves and pruning, something I was told I would probably not do again...
I do take good general care of my back and do warm ups etc when doing things like gardening but I am able to do it
Take care, all the best
