Massaging
When I have this done, I notice the curve in my back tends to increase a little after it's done, certainly feels better though, anyone else get this
Does anyone get their iliacus and psoas massaged, I was told this can't really be done and stretching is the only way

Re: Massaging
Paul-
The psoas can be massaged and released. I've had it done every few weeks for a year. Hurts like a mother, but 2 days later feels wonderful. You have to move your legs to the opposite side and this alllows the therapist access to the psoas. Also self-massage is described in Claire Davies Trigger Point Therapy Workbook.
This was instrumental in my recovery. Also weight loss helped it alot. Once the weight came off the pelvis was more neutral and therefore the psoas was not strained.
I think anyone named Paul has back pain or so it appears

Re: Massaging
Yeah, quite a few Paul's on here, not good
Every few weeks for a year - that's quite a lot mate, it must have been as tight as hell
I'll have to go back to my physio and tell him then, can really tell the psoas is a main offender
As for stretching, I think the best stretch is the " Thomas test " stretch

Re: Massaging
tight is not the word. I also do backbends over a 65CM swissball. I can actually do a full back bend. This really keeps it opened up.
I seem to think many lifters have this problem. tight psoas, quads, QL, IT band, TFL.....weak hamstrings, lower abs. These are commong for power (push) athletes. I was (extremely bulky) able to bench press 400 lbs and all the other push movements. Yet I had virtually no TVA strength. That has all changed. It has taken me 18 months but my thighs are no longer massive and my upper body is more balanced. Still thick but have TVA strength. I will never be mistaken for a beach volleyball player, but dropping to 200 pounds is been instrumental in keeping the pelvis neutral

Re: Massaging
I wasn't a power ( push ) athletes though
Just a skinny guy following a basic natural bodybuilder routine
I started training in 2002 and hurt my back in 2006
I went from 135 lb to 215 lb at 6'2 during this time
I'm now around 185 lb and seem to holding at this weight
I've got 75cm swissball and do that, not sure how I'm get on doing that on a 65cm ball
How come you didn't think your psoas it was tight ?
When I was training I would say I was lower body heavy, big quads and hips in main for sure, I seem to put mass on the best in that area
Would you say you were lower body heavy then ?
I was never really strong at bench pressing, with long arms, I was better at deadlifts
What have you done for TVA strength, I've been doing vacuums
Do you have any goals of geting bigger again
Paul
