After trigger point therapy
has anyone ever had dizziness, short breath, whole body muscle spasms after a massage?
had my trigger points massaged today (head and back)and was told there is alot of waste build up, and drink lots of water
I can feel less tension but I dont like the above mentioned feelings.
Any thoughts?

Re: After trigger point therapy
Hi Kelly,
I had that happen to me once after a massage - it was not trigger point but it was deep tissue. I was really, really knotted up and I started to feel dizzy, short of breath on the table. So I got up and felt like I was going to faint. No major muscle spasms. I think I just had a huge release of toxins that my body was not ready to handle. I am also a little hypoglycemic so get light headed without having food for a long time anyway
I stayed in the day spa for a while and had them bring me some food (I had an empty stomach when I went for the massage) and drank water. Eventually I felt better. However after that I never went for a massage (especially deep tissue TP) with an empty stomach and that has helped.
Good luck!

Re: After trigger point therapy
Hi Margo thanks for your in put.
That incident totally scared me. when I went back for the follow up massage, she confirmed that toxins were released and yes I needed to drink lots of water. And since you mentioned it, yes I was a little hungry before the massage.
I was actually afraid to do another massage but she said that I needed it. So I made sure to drink a lot afterward. But with the toxin release I got really itchy, and oh boy that is another story.
If anyone else experienced this please let me know.

Re: After trigger point therapy
Actually mine happened after my first Chiropractic visit. I had been having some serious neck and shoulder issues and finally went to see a chiro, he was amazed that I was still able to function as bad as I was. But after that first adjustment, I got VERY sick, I was home for a couple of days, dizzy, and a lot of flu like symptoms. I even called him and asked "What the hell did you do to me??" And yes, it was from years and years of stress and toxin buildup and once it was released, my body went into shock from being bombarded with the toxins.
I totally understand you being nervous and worried about the massage, but it will stop usually (depending on how bad you are) 3-10 treatments. You just got to take care of yourself and apy attention to your body! (holy cow, I wish I knew then what I know now!!)
