Have I over-exercised?
I recently purchased your LTBP course and performed my assessments which indicated I have 3 dysfunctions; forward-tipped pelvis, high hip and forward head and shoulders. I then proceeded to do some of the exercises for each dysfunction. Feeling well-satisfied that I was on my way to becoming pain-free, I relaxed on the couch for an hour. When I went to stand up I had a very nasty pain shoot from my lower back down my right side (I usually get it on my left). I have been in worse pain ever since. Could somebody please advise. Have I over-exercised? Should I leave off for a few days? Or maybe something may have "clicked" into or out of place in my back? Has anybody experienced similar problems?

Re: Have I over-exercised?
Hi Chris,
I am in UK too When I started with LTBP I was in a lot of pain and so just did the first exercise for my main dysfunction FTP then if OK with that moved onto the next one and so on. I dont know but you may have done too much too soon. Your body may need time to adjust. In my experience slow and steady is the key...you should also only be stretching to your tolerance.
I also found it a good idea-better for me in the early days-to warm up first a little prior to the exercises like take a warm shower or bath or a short walk if you can.
Then I am wondering how you lay down on the couch? Is it supportive of your back- I only ask because sitting or laying on our comfy squishy couch was out of the question for me when I had severe pain as it always hurt me.
Perhaps ease up for a few days- dont just rest as in lay down- though try to keep moving.
Steve may well have further advice for you as well.
Also you may like to ask if getting in the water would help you too, just moving in the water gently,(a warm pool is better in my experience) floating, walking forwards and backwards etc.
All the best and hang in there

Re: Have I over-exercised?
Hi Ann,
I appreciate your reply. I did have a warm shower before I started the exercises, and when I sit on the couch I always put a cushion behind the painful area of my back to support it (I do not lie on the couch - too painful!). I am a rather overweight lady in my late forties and the couch has started to rather soften-up due to my weight. I think I need to avoid the couch as I now find it quite painful when I get up from sitting on it. Maybe Steve could explain what is happening here?. I agree, that maybe I may have done too many of the exercises too soon - I was just eager to get rid of the pain, and now I have done the opposite. I will try just doing the first FTP one for a few days.
How is your back doing now? Hope you are losing your pain?
Regards, Chris

Re: Have I over-exercised?
Hi Chris,
How are you doing now? I wanted to reply earlier but couldnt find your post! Yes take it easy for a bit then slowly build up and btw only stretch to tolerance, its not a no pain no gain thing, I did it just so I felt the stretch but not too much especially at first. Go for slow and steady gains.
Also to mention, with me I got good and not so good days but look for the overall trend which hopefully will be an increasing number of less pain then pain free days. Give your body time...
Thank you for asking about me yes I am much better. For me it was LTBP plus water therapy that got me back to living my life. I was told before I would need to consider surgery and physio was stopped. After doing LTBP for 3 months my neurosurgeon said surgery was not necessary and I should keep on doing what i was doing and also do water therapy 2-3 times a week. He felt I would need to always look after my back which I do but for me that is preferable to surgery!
Love to hear how you get on Keep in touch.

Re: Have I over-exercised?
Hi Ann, good to hear from you again. Steve has recently sent me details of the Self Adjustment for the SI joint, which I peerformed on Wednesday evening. Rest of that evening I was feeling quite pleased as it seemed to do the trick and I didn't get any spasms. Unfortunately, the next day I had a lot of spasms and found it very painful to move around. I started to get very despondent, wondering if it was a "one-minute" wonder and whether anything was ever going to work. Yesterday, though, although I was back to feeling very sore in my lower back and left butt-cheek, I was moving a bit better. I tried the initial ftp exercise with 5 reps and the exercise for the neck and shoulders where you stretch the neck in 6 different directions. Still feeling okay this morning, so think I might carefully add another ftp and a high hip exercise into the routine and see how that goes for a few days. I am now feeling like a bit of a junky though - I recently received my supplies of the following; Glucosamine, MSM, (both for my arthritis, Omega 3 capsules to help joints, Multi Vitamins and Odourless Garlic capsules, which my boss assures me are anti-inflammatories.
At the ned of all this, I don't mind popping the pills as long as I get healthy and the pain goes away. I have rambled on a bit haven't I - keep in touch and would love to hear from others also.
Warm Regards, Chris
