I really am having problems finding exercises to relieve back pain, to help improve my muscle strength but I cannot get down onto the floor.
I have had two back surgeries, the first was because L5 and my sacroiliac had compress fractured and I was in danger it was going to cut the spinal cord. For 3 weeks I was on life support because I had developed an extremely sever chest infection. It was so sever I had to be special nursed for that 3 weeks.
When I awoke I could only move my head and hands,I had to learn to sit, stand & walk. Almost a year later to the day it appeared I had the same problem. It was a cyst in the spine but the same surgery without needing more of the rods, screws and baskets already there. I had to follow the same procedure of exercise as the time before. I have since had another vertebrae compress fracture they were in my upper back and not load bearing no surgery. I have also had 11 ribs fracture. This is all after years of steroid medication for a major illness.
My back causes pain as you can imagine the main problems are my hips across the back of my waist. I have major pain in my shoulders and . It is difficult to be comfortable at times. I sleep in a huge electric chair as it gives me just the correct amount of support
Help I need exercise for back pain BUT I cannot get down onto the floor.

Hiya,
It really sounds like you have been through a lot,(and done great learning to sit, stand and walk again ) and still are.
I am wondering if you have had any treatments apart from surgery?
Do you have anything for the pain at all?
Have you been told by medical professionals that you are OK to do exercise?
Just wondering if you have looked at the lose the back pain system of exercies? I have done that and it depends what you need there are some lying down exercises but also standing/sitting ones and maybe some of it would help? Might be worth checking.
Also can you do water therapy? Again something I have done and found very helpful. You may need some onme qualified to help you initially with which exercises to do. Even just being in the water, floating, walking a little etc may help - but do check it is Ok for you to do first.
What do you think ? Do let us know are you are doing. If I think of anything else I will let you know.

Hi frilly,
Forgot to add that when I first started with the lose the back pain system I was in a lot of pain and so there were some of the exercises I could not do and Steve worked with me to adapt the exercises to help me.
There was one in particular that should have been done on the floor but that I struggled with and he said to try to do that exercise on a bed - which was then fine for me. So I am sure if you got the system and talked with him he could help you to work with and adapt the program to suit you. I found him very helpful. It is worth considering.
