I need specifics as to which exercises I shouldnt do with a total hip replacement.
Hello All.
I have just listened to the audio FAQ's on total hip replacements. I understand that I might not be able to do all the exercises (I have a forward hip and a high hip) but need clarification as to exactly which of the exercises I shouldnt be doing. This wasnt made clear on the Audio. I am 9months post surgery and am suffering with terrible siatica on the opposite leg which affects my left thigh and causes muscle pain and spasms. I have just begun the programme and am only doing the exercises for the forward tilting hip, so far. So, can anyone enlighten me some more?
Thanks

Hi Vicky,
You are doing the right thing finding out as much general info as you can and listening to the audio. However, for more specific advice and to help you get the best out of the program you should send your photos and assessments and a brief history of your surgery and symptoms off to Steve so that he can advise you personally on the exercises.

Vicky, with a THR you are restricted with hip internal Rotation, flexing the hip past 90 Degrees (or having your knees go higher then your hips) and any adduction past mid-line of your body, so any activity that as you toeing ward and any deep knee bending...

Steve, Thank you for your reply but really wanted names of exercises that I SHOULDNT be doing because of my THR. eg: Foward bend or Full squat or Reverse crunch. I just want to get on and cant figure it out the way you explain it. Can you just tell me by name which not to do? That would be a great help.
Thanks
Vicky

I will be glad to give you to help, that said, we do not like to give personal suggestions on the forum as it can create confusion, with our readers.
So please email me direct, and if you like you can send me your assessment photos and I can help you further...
