INFO on visiting AL
Hi everybody... has been some time since I've been on here. Well I finally broke down and talked to Al Meilus on the phone yesterday... REALLY NICE GUY. I'm seriously considering going to see him... but the cost is a major issue. I can come up with the money, but really want to know that it will be worth it. I want to please ask anyone who has gone to Al to write me a private email and let me know how it went. If you could let me know the reasons that led you there and the outcome of the whole thing I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Re: INFO on visiting AL
If you have a back problem Al is the man. His diagnostic ability is uncanny. He will also get you results right there that day. If they stay that is another story. Most will require diligence on your part, expecially if you were in that position for a long time. He was the first one to get me pain free and show me it was muscle problems.
I can not say enough good things about him and he will support you via phone as much as you need.
Well worth the money.
I do not know what anyone else paid but I got roughly 2 full days of treatment for around $1100. I also bought a robot and that was i believe $2500. I only have a tight iliacus left so that is all i use it on. I also have tears that require surgery (no in the back) so the robot can not help those, but it does keep the surrounding muscles loose and prevents the tears from hurting.
Al is awesome.....
PERIOD
I saw a prob bowler who had lost his sponsorship and was injured 2 years. He was the #1 hardest thrower on the PBA tour. He could barely get up. The next day he walked out like the young man he was. He was back on the tour within 2 weeks. Previously he was skipping matches. I have seen this same scenario play out each of the times I was there.

Re: INFO on visiting AL
Brandon, I have been away from this site for awhile now. But I just saw your request for Al Meilus experiences and what led to it/outcome, etc. I wrote the following on this forum on April 13, 2008 - and it appears to have been removed. Hence a repeat for you, to answer your request:
In February '06 my complaint to my experienced, well-known and well-respected Rochester NY orthopedic surgeon, had been a worsening of lower back and leg pain to the point of not being able to walk more than a few yards without debilitating pain where I could not continue. This pain was causing me to become less and less functional in day-to-day activities. Scoliosis, a twisted vertebra, a bone spur and arthritis at the point of impingement of the sciatic nerve were all involved.
I followed every recommendation of my doctor's office without experiencing any significant or lasting relief. (Physical therapy, cortisone shots). By August 13, 2007, my doctor indicated the only next step available for me was to have a myelogram performed in order to determine the complexity of the back surgery required to address the source of my pain. He indicated the surgery would probably be quite complex and the results were not guaranteed.
At that time I indicated to my husband that I would go "kicking and screaming" into surgery. In other words, I was determined to exhaust every viable option I could find before even seriously considering surgery. So, after careful research, I made a decision to undergo muscular physical therapy using a new, FDA-approved method not available in the Rochester area. According to the founder, Al Meilus, this method might allow me some relief of my pain at the very least, and at the very most, a more substantial “cure” where follow-up visits might be needed, but in-between these visits an almost 100% return to my normal activities would be possible. The clinic, and the founder of the new method, is located in Pinellas Park, Florida.
You should know I traveled to Florida with very low expectations. Al indicated that if muscles were involved in my source of pain, he could most definitely help me. My understanding from my doctor was that muscles were definitely not involved in my case, and "this person" in Florida was no doubt a charlatan and we were wasting our money. As a result, I was quite skeptical of my chances of finding lasting relief and a return to some kind of a normal life.
On Tuesday, August 21, 2007 I underwent treatment at the clinic. On Wednesday, August 22, I returned to the clinic for another (and final) day of treatment. After about one hour on the 22nd, my husband and I walked out of the clinic to “test” my progress so far. I walked, and jogged (!) for about 50 minutes non-stop with no pain!! I had not been able to do that for one and one-half years! Needless to say, I was extremely happy, however now skeptical as to how long lasting this would be.
RESULTS 8 MONTHS LATER
It is now April 13, 2008. I walked again, yesterday, non-stop and pain-free. I have been able to do this, every day, since my 2-day treatment almost 8 months ago. I am finding that if I skip a day or so without swimming or walking for about a half-hour, I might become a little "tight" where I used to have excruciating pain. The good news is that with understanding how chronic pain often works, I have learned to stretch the right muscles, and can easily return to feeling flexible. I certainly can say I am entirely pain-free. I have my life back again! As a matter of fact, I was elated to spend this past February in Florida with my husband where we walked several times a day along the beach, for as long as we wished, whenever we wished, and with absolutely no hint of tightness, soreness or pain.
This is without question a far much better outcome than major surgery might have wrought.
Very basically, Al's method of treatment uses a robotic arm to lengthen muscles by working out adhesions in muscles, which make them so tight they foster pain. In order to obtain FDA-approval for this new method of muscular therapy, Al had to prove that the robotic arm is able to change muscle tissue beyond that possible by human hands.
Anyone interested in reading about Al, his own journey to better health, and the conditions he claims to be able to help, check out: meilus.com
In my mind and my husband's mind, my experience was nothing short of a miracle. Before we left Al's clinic, I asked him why he wasn't shouting this from the top of the highest trees. Al simply stated: "no one would believe me". And he is right. Folks are naturally skeptical of such seemingly simple solutions. Why aren't the doctors aware of this? If it is so great, why don't they have a robotic arm and clinic here in Rochester? Great questions. I hope we have this in town one day. After I shared my story with a chiropractor acquaintance of mine, he indicated he would contact Al to see if he could get one of the robotic arms into his office. Thank goodness for medical folks who keep their minds open to new ideas.
Feel free to share or not to share with others as you see fit.
(3/26/09 update): I continue to enjoy all exercise with absolutely no pain!
Brandon, if Al Meilus believes he may be able to help you, I would encourage you to go! In terms of the finances, I managed to get my medical insurance co. to reimburse me the cost of the clinic. However this was only after I exhausted everything my doctor told me to do to get relief and it didn't work. I paid a visit to the doc after seeing Al and convinced him how well things were now going. He agreed to write a letter to my insurance recommending they reimburse me. I also wrote to the insurance co. and outlined my experience and how it saved them probably 5 digits worth of surgery plus all the pre and post-op expenses, not to mention a questionable outcome with surgery! Best of luck to you!

Re: INFO on visiting AL
I have also visited Al with great results in curing my back pain. I have tears in my rectous abdominis and adductors and am having surgery to reattach them but his therapy has allowed me to be pain free around the tear sites and be fucntional.
Also a pro-bowler was there and his last name is Smith from Columbus, Ohio. He looked crippled. He had lost sponsorships and was afraid he would not be a pro bowler in this condition. As it was he missed many evernts due to his low back injury. He was next to me all day for treatment and we got talking. When the robot was working on him initially he felt tight and some pain but the more it worked on him the looser he felt. He was ecstatic.
Prior to this he was the hardest throwing power bowler on the PBA tour rolling the ball 37 mph and the avg pro is 21 mph.
Long story short i saw him today on ESPN in the Long Island Classic and he lost 258-244 in a heads up match, but he looked strong as an ox. No stretching of the back or lack of power. It was amazing. He was there with me around 3 months ago.
Al is worth the price....which in the long run is very inexpensive

I am able to live my life back pain free...only pain i have is my 3 tears which will be getting operated on eventually i imagine.
I am moving very soon and will not be taking my robot. It has been a godsend but is going unused the last month. I have only had to use it on occasion for my iliacus....before i had to use it on everything....LOL.....it is amazing.
I paid $2500 for it.....It is the heavy duty steel model (not the wood)....If anyone wants to make me an offer please do.

I plan on going for a two day treatment the week
of April 20. I have been dealing with numbness
in the lower legs, trigger points and vicious
muscular tightness in my lower body due to spondylolithesis L-5/S-1, bulging discs, and SI Joint
dysfunction. Steve with LTBP has been a great help and I've been with the program for three months now,
but there must be something that I haven't been able
to figure out yet on the stretching, or my condition
has made my body react this way. Or I may have a lot
of built up fascia due to 26 years of weight training and cardio. I'm an NPC competitor and hope to be able to continue. I've been through three chiros,
three PT's, a neurologist, an orthopeadic surgeon,
and several other doctors.....so, I'm going to AL with
high hopes. Oh yea, also several message therapist.I've also been trying to treat myself for
TP's with little of no luck. And also roll on a foam roller....temporary help.
This is my first post on the forum. I hope that I can come back with good news!

Quick Question: I live in Orlando and grew up in Palm Harbor (25 min drive from Al), would you recommend going to him even though i am not in pain. I work the LTBP system, hard core abs, etc and am doing great. Wanted to see if he would be an additional benefit?
thx
Rich

If your muscles are overly tight or you feel your perfromance is suffering. Many people go there who have lost ROM and have no pain. Anything muscular he can help with generally. I would call him first to see what he thinks. Tell him I sent you from LTBP and he will talk for as long as you like.

Re: INFO on visiting AL
Hi ,
I have gone to see Al at the end of last year. I have been suffering from serious sciatic pain from lower back to lower leg. My L5 disc according to some doctor, is gone and causes the pain. Despite trying out many pain relief modalities, the pain has always come back.
At the day I flew over to Florida from California to see Al, I had to sit on wheelchair in the airport and use crutches to move around. I was in serious pain (level 8-9), but I was motivated to get well.
I did the two days treatment ($800/day), borrowed the manual robot from Al while I stayed in Florida for a week to treat myself, and bought the manual robot ($2500) to bring back home. Unfortunately I didn't get the relief I was hoping for. One the day I flew back home, my pain level has dropped from level 8-9 to 7-8 and still had to use wheelchair/crutch to move around.
Back at home, I got phone support from Al office and Dave to continue my treatment using the robot. Dave is a former patient of Al and he is a very knowledgeable kind caring person who volunteered to help me out. With lots of coaching from Dave, I slowly made progress using the robot intensively over two months. My pain level has dropped down to 4-5. Besides the pain, I also suffered scoliosis posture. And that too, slowly improved. But I was not satisfied with the progress so far. Hence I went out to further seek other help.
Today I am doing spinal decompression and 6 sessions into it, has dropped my pain level to 2-3. As I am still going through the treatment, I can not say what is the outcome of this treatment. I might write about the result some day.
Here is what I learned from my experience. Am a sciatic pain sufferer with L5 disc very thin, the pain could be caused by compressed nerve and tight muscle together. My muscle pre-Al robotic treatment, was hard as rock. Because of serious pain, my muscle/tendon tightened up and pulled my posture out of balance to find a less painful body posture configuration. After using the robot to release my muscle which also relieve and restore some of my mobility, I still suffer pain from compressed nerve. Hence this spinal decompression is helping me now.
I find that figuring out which treatment to go for, is the hardest. We all make mistake on the way until we stumble on the right treatment. Even then, one right treatment for one person, may not be right for other. All I can say is, if you have spinal disc problem, has sciatic pain down your leg, numbness, pain that never go away, you are likely suffering from nerve compression. Even then, not all nerve compression causes any symptom.

Re: INFO on visiting AL
Tony-
That is a great story. It seems that each of us have used a combination to lessen and alleviate our pain.
Here is what helped me.
LTBP helped me with staying loose.
Al gave me my first taste of no pain. Realizing that my surrounding musculature causes alot of my pain. However, it did not hold not due to anything Al did. I have tears in my adductors and Rectous Abdominis that I am seeing a top surgeon for on Tuesday. These will never heal in their own.
However, once i got this daignosis I have been able to manage my symtpoms to get through my day with mild discomfort. It will flare if i do any stretching or adductor excercises. So any back excercises would just re-tear this and flare it. I also know this stops the edema i get in my groin and calf tightness.
It is to the point my life is not all pain all the time. I can think of other things. I do have bad days...like today. I raked yesterday (bad for RA) and i rode the excercise bike...bad for this injury.

Tony-
I am glad Al's treatment took you part of the way. The loosened and lengthened musculature probably allowed the decompression to be more effective. I know when musces are soft/pliable they are healthier and more easily manipulted. I think with the combination of the robot, decompression and time you will conquer your pain.
Also I found the greatest use for my robot was loosening my ilaicus on a daily basis...20 minutes each side and after 3 weeks they were like butter.
However, I could not put it on my adductors because i was told not to open my legs as it flares my adductors.
If/when I have this surgery (will know tuesday) I will be visiting Al to get the surrounding muscle lengthened. When I move in the fall i am looking into the table robot.

This was not written in August but closer to March before I had my athletic pubalgia surgery.
Although i did get some temporary relief from both products until my torn rectus abdominis and torn pectinues/adductor longus were debrided and reattached a cure was not in the cards for me.
However, i think the robot is phenomenal and if you want to feel good in a day Al is your man. It is up to you to maintain it though. But Al knows his stuff. i just do not like to see my e-mail with a different date on it used for marketing purposes. if you guys remember it was Dave who first went there and me who came back promoting it to people.
I personally think however we can help people but i am a little miffed that my e-mail was not properly dated. It makes it look like it was just posted......
The marketing machine marches on

It said August 20th on post this morning. Now it is changed to the correct day. I just want to make sure the order is correct because my dealings with the robot and LTBP was prior to my surgery and both were good.....but could not be judged because I had a completely torn rectus abdominis and torn pectineus and longus which could not be cured by either. My point is that both protocols did provide relief although temporary...but if you are in pain from something back related you guys are the people to see.
I actually had better success with Al because it is hands on and immediate.

Three and a half years ago, I was left completely crippled and told that I'd never walk again. Al, a colleague of his and Al's robots got me walking again.
I was recently interviewed by a medical news TV company. It will be shown sometime later this year.
I have received a number of personal e-mails asking about Al's treatment system. Due to the fact that I'm busy just now looking to get back to work, I won't be able to answer too many questions personally.
If anyone would like to know anything about the treatment process, please post it on here, and I'll do my best to answer.
My mother came to see Al a few months ago. She had a balance problem [ vertigo ] which had been bothering her for ten years [ sometimes she would have to lay down for three or four days and not move ]. By working on a muscle in her neck which indirectly puts pressure on an area where the balance organs are situated, he cured her of it. She has not had an attack since.
