Lower abdominal pain/tenderness
I am sure this has to do with my imbalances. Yesterday it snowed 7" and of course it was my 3rd day in a row shoveling and breaking ice. Well last night my lower right abdominal was very very tender.
One section feels like my obliques or psoas (i can not tell)..I used the robot on it and it was tender as heck. Also immediately to the right of my pubic bone was also very tender. I did not feel any bulges or anything. I am going to my PCP tomorrow to check for hernia. Any input on this. I have weak lower abs dating way back. Every time i attempt anything they flare. Any thoughts?

Re: Lower abdominal pain/tenderness
Hey Paul
Sorry to hear about that buddy, but I hope you made some Snowangels while you were out there in the snow, and had a good old snowball fight?? LOL
Is the right side the same side that you have problems with your psoas?? Maybe you worked too hard on your psoas recently and this has caused some tenderness?
And when you say tenderness to the right of your pubic bone do you mean possibly one of the gluteal muscles or pirformis? Or is it more like a bone tenderness? Because if it is the tenderness like a bruise that is similar to what i was experiencing recently but this has disappeared recently.
Good to see that your gonna go get checked for a hernia buddy, always best to rule that sort of thing out. It could just be that you have pulled a muscle shovelling the snow.

Re: Lower abdominal pain/tenderness
Paul......Pain sounds like the original pain I had.....Not saying you have what I have...but In a nutshell I took a hard hit in a collision playing sports ....I was fine after, just sore from the hit...but about 2 weeks later I bent down to tie my shoe and I felt an intense sharp/tearing like pain in the lower left Ab area ...then when I walked or ran shooting sharp pain right thru the pubic bone area....after 4.5 years of doctors I finally was diagnosed by a Doctor Meyers in Philadelphia who specializes in Athletic pubalgia a.k.a Sports Hernia...the MRI he does is set up with a Athletic pubalgia Protocol ...Ive had MRIs that showed nothing to till this one....anyways it showed a tear to the adducter tendon and Rectus Abdominal Tendon.....so what would happen thru those 4.5 years is it would get a little better where I could run again and then wham would feel that sharp pain and Id be out of action again.....and soon everything went bad...Pelvis tilted fwd, High Hip, rotated sacrum and slight spine curve and all the aches and pains spread everywhere
If you get no answers you might want ot look into someone in your area that specializes in this just so you can rule it in or out.....I d hate to see anyone go thru all the bull I did and still am....Im close to the end since Im Trying PRP Prolotherapy first then surgery would be the last option in the Fall of 2009
Theres only a handful of Docs who specialize in Athletic pubalgia...so it may be hard to find one in your area...Dr Meyer pretty much wrote the book on it and hes in Philadelphia so I flew fromt CT to see him.......I know theres one in CAL, ARZ and MINN also
Good luck ...I really hope its something easy that you can fix...but worst case Athletic pubalgia can be fixed with surgery

Hi Paul
Maybe it's tissue damage if it hurts to move it, sounds like it's that darn pectinus again if it's near the pubic bone, keep us up dated mate

Re: Lower abdominal pain/tenderness
Just back from the doctor and there is no tear. It is just tender on the rectus abdominis.
Jeff...i also live in CT and i have researched the whole sports hernia angle and i do not think i have that but i will keep an eye on it. I have minimal FTP now and really no other pain.
My pectineus is soft like butter now and so is my adductor magnus. I have been hitting it with the robot and it has stayed loose. My whole hip area is getting good now and i am even able to maintain some yoga poses i would never have dreamed of 6 months ago.
I have always had weak lower abs and i will keep an eye on the sports hernia thing. My doctor who was the doctor for the Hartford Whalers (now Carolina Hurricanes) says it is similar to what he sees in pro hockey players and it is nagging....
I also heard it is tough to identify the sports hernia and it is surgery with a mesh kit

Re: Lower abdominal pain/tenderness
Hey Paul where in CT do you live?...Im in Torrington...I have a trip to see Al planned if everything I try between now and the Fall fail......of course surgery would be my final option....Im going to give A.R.T. (Active Release Technique) a try......theres a certified one in Avon and Newtown....The Avon office is also the same place where I will be getting the PRP Prolo to the torn tendons...so its nice they do both
As for you did you play sports and what was your specific sport?...certain sports put athletes more prone to sports hernia.........how did the Hockey Doc rule out any Tears?.....For me UCONN told me they couldnt Diaganose or treat Sports Hernia and Sent me to Dr Meyers in Philly to have the MRI there and get diagnosed there....Wasnt bad...flew there and back the same day......anyways if you ever get to the point you wnat more info/contact info etc jsut give me a shout....Good Luck

Re: Lower abdominal pain/tenderness
Oh one more thing......Meyers does not use mesh.........its open surgery and he is able to see all the attachemnts to the Pelvis bone...I think theres like 13...this way he can repair anything the MRI didnt pick up...he claims theres usually more damage then what the MRI shows....Mesh is a no no to fix a sports hernia........usually fails and those people end up at Dr Meyers to get it done the right way

Re: Lower abdominal pain/tenderness
Jeff,
I am in South Windsor, CT. The doctor just called it a Grade 1 / 2 sprain. No MRI on the groin or anything like that. I looked into ART but after Al and the results i got I didn't need it anymore.
My lower abdominal seems to come and go but it has always been a point of contention for years. However, during the flares it is uncomfortable.
What are your symptoms that made you determine it was a sports hernia.
I can not spring for anymore MRI's or tests of the nature at this juncture. I am functioning pretty well and if i have this progressively get worse i will research it more.

Jeff-
E-mail me. There are specific questions i would like to ask. I may go see him since this has occurred for years. As long as i can remember. In fact i hate to even raise my leg because of the lower ab discomfort.

Re: Lower abdominal pain/tenderness
i hate to say it but after reading alot of the abdominal and groin symtpoms i think i may have this........
my back pain went away right after pectineus and adductor magnus shot.....muscles i had never heard of before.....
My groin always felt like it was jammed up and someone was jamming my leg into my lower abs...
My lower right quadrant was always tender as hell....I thought it was my psoas and now i am not so sure because i think it is lower....
I have not lost any strength....it just hurts like a mother.....especially after raking.....or shoveling....It happened while twisting and tossing a log....****....another thing to worry about...but if it is this i will get it taken care of asap....i have fixed everything else and am functional but i always am scared to push it
