Prolasped Disc - l4/l5
I'm looking for assistance with my back - In august 08 I developed back pain and stiffness following carrying a very large person down a glacier in when i was in Norway -
Not understanding slipped discs and the sittuation didn't really allow me to see a doctor until i got back to amsterdam 3 weeks later who simply prescribed Diclofenec and said i would be ok. I sought another doctors opinion in london and he prescribed ibrufen and said i would be ok in 2 weeks.
So i flew to africa and spent 3 months there. In that time my back didn't get better rather, it got steadily worse with slight discomfort appearing in my thigh. I went to physio about 11 times, no effect - rather it seemed to get worse after each treatment.
I tried chiro - and suddenly within 24 hours after seeing the chiro i could no longer walk. The pain was so bad, i couldn't sit, lie down, stand or anything, i simply had to just bear it.
The pain went right from a feeling in the thigh to a full blown severe pain in my hip - my calf and into my ankle. 4 days later i lost superficial feeling in my skin on my right foot and calf muscle and part of my thigh. However - I told the Chiropractor about this - and being Africa i guess, she said this is totally normal ( probably lied to me? )and to continue treatment. So on it went seeing her 3 times a week for manipulations that hurt like nothing else - but she was adamant it would begin to feel better.
Well it didn't, i ended up taking some prescription pain killers and flew home to aussie - Where i have been seeing physio and acupuncture with little healing rewards.
The pain sometimes gets better - and i begin to move - then suddenly, i lapse and the pain massivly returns. it's been nearly 9 months since i injured myself
I'm only 26 years old, i was very fit and strong, now i'm about 25kg heavier than before. I havn't been able to bend in the whole time since i realised i had an injury. Sitting is not an option and i prefer to lie on my stomach when resting and prop myself up on elbows. I can feel my muscles in my back are Extremely tight now since i no longer bend forwards - bending backwards is a breeze and i'm quite flexible in that direction
I have very limited movement in my right leg. the calf muscle is much less flexible than the left, i find it very difficult to extend my right leg when walk - therefore my right step is smaller than my left stride.
I want to try yoga but i'm so **** stiff and it's so painful i can't perform exercises.
I recently stopped taking All medication - such as dicloflenec, tremadol, coidine because my liver **** itself and swelled and began to shutdown.
I've had MRI and Cat Scans of my back to show the prolapse - and it's diagnosed as a moderate prolapse in the L4/L5 disc pressing on the sciatic nerve.
Please - i'm looking to get better as i am supposed to be in Africa again now with my girlfriend. But i can never go there unless i fix my back. I'm booked in for surgery - but i have just found this website and this forum and i really hope people can shed some light to help me.
I'm currently walking every day - acupuncture twice a week - i swim every day - previously before this i swam 3km each morning and walked 6km. Now i walk about 2 km a day and swim around 500 meteres. I found that swimming more - actually made the pain worse afterwards and that less was in fact better.
Anyways.. i can provide more details if you need to know anything...
Please help!!

Hi,
I guess you found the right website. Please buy this product, and so the self assesment and ask Jessie for advice.
You are still young I am one year younger than you are and have disc buldge(although not in pain but some restricted moment and tight muscles)and I donth think that surgery an option for your age and symptons. You are already doing some great things like accupuncture. Are you also have sciatica(if yes try the excercise demonstrated on the website where you site on the chain), it will help a lot.
Get a second opinion before yu even think about surgery. I wont be doing it if in your place. You can also try accupressure as that will be good as well( I live in sydney) and there are some good people here who do accupressure.Try Ice if its hurting too much on your back and not heat at the moment. Try to keep pillow under your knees when sleeping. Dont lie on your stomach(Its my experience).
good luck
