back pain - sciatic pain triggered from toe injury
I am a 47 year old athlete 8% body fat. I bike, hike, and lift weights. I would occasionally get lower back pain after golf, always on my right side. I severely broke my right pinky toe 2 weeks ago and rather than use crutches I just limped around for 2 weeks. 2 days ago I was limping around the golf course (limped 18) and after I was through my back pain got progressively worse. The next day I had severe muscle twitching (uncontrollable) in my right leg. Now I have intense pain in the right side of my right thigh and right buttocks. I only feel relief when I bend over and put my palms to the floor. I am basically a cripple now. I am doing ibuprofen, ice, heat and light buttocks stretching. Any other advise? Thanks.

Re: back pain - sciatic pain triggered from toe injury
Hi Mark,
I am sorry to hear you are in pain. I am not qualified to advise you what to do and can only go on my own personal experiences. Have you seen a healthcare provider just to check you out?
It sounds like you have stopped doing all your normal exercising for now and that would be wise for a while or you could aggravate things further. I would also be careful about just doing generic stretching as well. I did that for a while and it made me worse as i was targetting the wrong muscles.
I wonder if anyone has checked you out for muscle imbalances? You may like to read a bit about muscle imbalances here and see what you think.

You may like to look into the lose the back pain system and see what you think.
As you play Golf you may find this interesting plus other articles here.

It is important to address the symptoms and the underlying cause. For me heat worked really well to ease my sciatic and back pain symptoms short term; are any of the things you are trying helping?
You would need to check if this is Ok for you but for me getting in a pool and just floating, walking and gently moving helped as well. For me it was a combination of lose the back pain system, heat and water therapy. Other people have had success with a different combination.
Take good care and hope to hear how you are.

Re: back pain - sciatic pain triggered from toe injury
Thanks for the info. It seems the bulging disc in my back from a long ago injury was irritated by the imbalance and limping for 2 weeks. This caused the nerve to be pinched and the subsequent nerve pain in my leg. The muscles totally tightened up reacting to the nerve. I am happy to report I am once again a lean, mean fighting machine. Biking, hiking, golf, everything. 3 weeks of high dose Ibuprofen, ice and heat, stretching and message and the muscles finally relaxed once again. I am attending yoga, stretching and strengthening my back as much as possible. I hope to never experience the heinous pain associated with back/leg/nerve pain ever again. Next time I'll use the crutches!
