Spinal Decompression
As a newbie to the forum I was wondering if any one has tried Spinal Decompression with chiropractic firms who use a DRX9000 decompression unit?
I have been diagnosed with 2 bulging discs and one other disc with a protrusion. Anyone not familiar with this type of pain relief can learn more about it at www.americanspinal.com.
If anyone has any feedback or experience with this method, I would appreciate hearing from them.

Re: Spinal Decompression
Spinal decompression can be very good.
It worked wonders for my herniated disk.
But:
Unless you are in so much pain that you cannot do ANY exercises [ which was my situation ]you should try to do some other programs such as LTBP, EGOSCUE, CHEK, MEILUS etc.
Remember, the DRX9000 will not cure what CAUSED the disk problems.
It can, however, re-hydrate disks under certain conditions.
It is a very useful tool for someone who cannot move at all.
If you are able to move, I'd recommend trying an inversion table first.

Re: Spinal Decompression
If possible, try to find a DiscForce unit near you.
http://www.discforce.com/
They are the best units on the market.
The world's most successful practioner of spinal decompression is Dr. Gerald Mattia.

Give him a call.

I completed eight weeks of spinal decompression without results. It's not the silver bullet it is advertised as...

Re: Spinal Decompression
Hello Steve
I will be putting a detailed posting on spinal decompression later.
It is a very complicated issue, as there are factors such as the device itself, the vector values [ force and direction of the pull ], the software that controls the erector spinae distraction mechanism, the skill of the chiropractor in using the device, the tightness of the back muscles and fascia upon initial treatment, and several factors.
It is not the science behind the technology that is at fault. It is the marketing of the device and the greed of many chiropractors.
One of the major factors however, involves whether the patient is even suitable for spinal decompression.
Let me ask you; Did the chiropractor put you through a full range of motion test ?
Did he check your sacro-iliac joints ?
Did you check you for muscular imbalances and postural dysfunctions ?
Did he check the tightness of your thoraco-lumbar fascia ?
Did he check your piriformis muscle ?
Did he check the tightness of your Ilio-Tibial Band ?
Did he check the tightness of your Tensor-Fascia Latae ?
Did he check your pelvis for anterior rotation or posterior rotation ?
Did he check for asymetrical rotation of your ilea ?
Did you check your feet [ yes, your feet ] for eversion ?
Did he check your shoulders for asymetric tilt ?
Did he check your sternocleidomastoid muscles and scalenes for head tilt and rotation ?
Did he check the tightness of your pectoralis major and pectoralis minor muscles ?
There are about a dozen others.
If I was a betting person, I'm pretty sure that he looked at an MRI and then slapped you on the table.
The DRX-9000 is a wonderful device, but it is only useful in certain circumstances and under certain conditions.
Let us know what your symptoms are and we'll try to help you.

Re: Spinal Decompression
WOW! Thank you all for your thought provoking input and questions. I have shown the doctor the MRI results and I was in the process of going through a series of tests to see whether I was a candidate for spinal decompression when it was discovered that my insurance did not cover the procedure. Everything is on hold until I can change insurance coverage which won't get settled until the end of the year.
Fortunately, after some rest, I can get back to my normal activities with hardly any pain at all. Last Thursday I over did it, which caused some pain but as of tonight I am 90% OK and plan to work tomorrow. As you can see I am not experiencing severe pain all the time, it comes on rather suddenly and corrects itself in a day or 2. However, my first bout with this problem occured the end of June and it took 3 1/2 weeks to get back to some normal routine.
With the replies I have received to date I am reconsidering and plan to look into some of the self-curing modalities offered in the replies.
Hope this information helps.

Re: Spinal Decompression
Hi Dave,
My chiropractor did none of that to me. I have been visiting him/her for 4 years.

Yes I think we can call it greed. They didn't even mention about muscles imbalances or other useful things. Well, I think my current chiropractor is already the best among so many I have visited but still far from being considered as good.
