Spine Decompression
Hi just wanted to know peoples' thoughts on spine decompression? What exactly does it do? Does it stretch muscles/ligaments/tendons?
I've been on the ltbp for awhile now (to be honest kind of fell off the wagon during the holidays... but have a renewed energy for it now). I don't have an inversion table, but the system shows that a swiss ball can be used. Have tried it a couple times... can't say it feels good exactly... but I does fell 'stretchy' if that is the right word.
How does the ball compare to the table? Also I have one of those chuck norris total gym things at my house and it looks like It would work for inversion (not total inversion of course).
Any advice on how to start... how long etc.
Thanks everyone.

Re: Spine Decompression
We have several articles on the website that describe it in detail so I suggest you start there:
http://www.losethebackpain.com/treatments/spinaldecompression.html
The ball technique we share is a very basic way to perform minor decompression. An inversion table (and other forms of traction) deliver I greater amount of decompression.
With inversion, start out slowly.... not going into full inversion and maybe starting with just 30 seconds or so to get used to it. the you can work your way up to full inversion for 3-5 minutes or more over time.
Hope this helps and please let us know if you still have questions :)

Re: Spine Decompression
I've never seen a study showing a decreased disc herniation size after sitting on a ball. But there are studies showing MRI-confirmed reduction in disc herniations with spinal decompression machines. That's science - not hyperbole.

Re: Spine Decompression
Hi Brandon
I have written a few postings on this previously.
Spinal decompression [ DRX-9000, VAX-D etc ] can work very well, but unfortunately due to a large number of variables discussed previously, good results are not that common.
I will be eternally grateful to the inventors of VAX-D for devising a device that took me from being completely disabled due to a massive herniation to being almost completely pain free. I've been in touch with over two hundred people in the Orlando area whose pain has been removed by these devices.
The science is correct.
Here's what I suggest you do; go to the doctor or chiro and say; "Do you have any MRI's/X-Rays of disk regeneration/disk healing from the use of your spinal decompression equipment ?"
Not manufacturers tests but actual patients' tests.
There are two chiros near me who are the best in the world for disk regeneration.
They use a machine called the Disk-Force.
They are only too happy to show x-rays.
You should also ask to speak to the actual patients.
Also ask them about money back guarantees - Will you refund me if you cannot increase my disk height ? You may have go through very many to find one who will accept that, but they are our there.
Do not listen to anyone who says these machines do not work. Usually they have other motives for saying that.
The machines are excellent. However, just a few reasons why they don't "appear" to work in many cases:
1. Most of the cases of people not getting results are simply due to the fact that the herniation showing on their MRI is not causing the pain. It's coming from elsewhere: tight muscles due to forward tipped pelvis etc. These people should never have been put on the machines in the first instance.
2. Sometimes other disks have to be worked on first before the injured one.
3. Some chiros don't know how to use the machines properly.
There are some real thieves out there using these machines to make money off people's pain, but there are some good ones.
Disk regeneration is possible - I'm living proof of that [ using the Pettibon System ].
If anyone tells you that any device can cause an increase in disk height, ask to see x-rays of actual patients before and after. If they make excuses, avoid them like the plague.

Hi dave,
i am in australia and its a shame that here we dont have a lot of people who suggest traction trough machines. just want to know ,,can inversion table do the same thing as drx-9000

Re: Spine Decompression
I've been treated by a chiropracter in Cincinnati for SI joint pain on the decompression table. It was GREAT! At least for that. I haven't had that kind of pain, or even close to it ever since, and that's been about six years ago. I do have to keep up with exercises, though.

You can achieve almost the same results with a table.
You can do light rocking, and heavy rocking.
My table routine is 3 minutes light rocking, 3 minutes fully inverted, and 3 minutes aggressive rocking.
