herniated and torn disks
Hello; I just purchased the system today to get rid of lower back pain. The MRI showed a "torn" disk between L4 and L5 and a herniated disk between L5 and S1. I will be doing the assesment over the next couple of days. I have 2 questions.....
1. What is a torn disk? I cannot find any information about that?
2. I have access to an inversion table, do you advise to try and do it now. I just finished up a round of steriods and I am still on pain meds. It is still painful to sit or stand for any length of time. I am using some cold packs at this time.
Any advice would help as I am trying to avoid injections and surgery.
Thanks!

Re: herniated and torn disks
The terminology around spinal issues relating to disc is very ambiguous but let me give you my take on it.
The three main terms relating to a disc issue are in the order of severity, Bulging Disc, Herniated Disc and Ruptured or torn Disc, There is also Protruding and Prolapsed. And if that is no confusing enough most of the time you are not told in quantitative term or given a measurement in centimeters how far and or how much has the disc moved.
The truth is it’s all a matter of degree or how much disc matter has moved not to mention how much contact with the nerve you have to relating to how much pain you have. Because studies have proved that you can have a herniated disc and not have pain.
You could try searching the terms prolapsed…
And inversion is worth looking into it is best to get your hands on the instruction manual of the inversion table for proper use, my suggestion is not to go past 25 degrees inversion for a while.

Thank you very much for the information.
I go back to the Dr. in 2 weeks and I have some specific questions for him already. If you have any other suggestions for questions for him I would appreciate it.
I will be doing the self assessments today. I will keep you posted on my recovery. Thanks again!

Re: herniated and torn disks
Michelle,
I just got a very similar MRI report
Central L4L5 bulging disc - small tear?
It's pressing the nerve and causing some real awful sensations even in my head, like a vibration.
I feel so sorry another person feels like this. The inversion table has been so incredibly helpful, when my feet feel tingly. I use it for three 1 minute tilts at about 25% tilt - maybe five times a day.
Let's get better!

Re: herniated and torn disks
Sylvia;
Thanks for the advice. I will be trying the inversion table today. I will let you know how it works out for me. I am going to try the 3 -1 minute tilts at 20-25% too. I too am sorry to hear someone else in pain as I am. I read some of your other posts and wanted you to know that they have encouraged me today.
Thanks!
I will keep you posted on my progress!
