WHEN IS SCIATICA NOT SCIATICA ?
When your doctor tells you that you have sciatica, one of the conditions for having it is that the pain runs down the BACK of your upper leg and/or the BACK of your lower leg.
If your pain is on the SIDE of your leg, it is 99% certain that the pain is not coming from your sciatic nerve, but rather from a band of muscle and fascia running down the outer side of your thigh called the ilio-tibial band [ IT band ] and/or from a similar, smaller muscle/fascia group called the tensor fascia lata. This is at the top of your thigh.
Please look at the pictures in the links below.
IT Band:

Tensor Fascia Lata:

There have been of many people who have had unnecessary surgery as a result of this.

Is it possible when you give a link address that it could be highlighted so one could just click on it? Most times when I enter the address it will not open up.

Hi Shurlee
Unfortunetely when putting links to other websites on the forum, they do not hyperlink so you will have to copy it and paste it.
Highlight the website address, then hold down
"Ctrl" and press the letter "C" - This will copy the link
Then open a new Internet Explorer window and paste the the text into the address bar, by holding down
"Ctrl" and then pressing "V"
Saves you typing out the address, and making mistakes that way...
Hope this helps people

What about a kind of hot burning pain in both legs in the calf and shin area? Sometimes numbness in the toes, and a pinching in the groin.

There is alot of leg pain that is not sciatica.
There is pseudo sciatica causes by piriformis......excessive lordosis from a FTP that stretches the nerve....but when neutral pelvis is returned it resolves....
There is pseudo sciatica caused by the "great mimicker" ...the gluteus medius/minimus which when active extends to the calf

Re: WHEN IS SCIATICA NOT SCIATICA ?
hmmmm, after buying the LTBP system I could not really identify if I had a forward tipped pelvis or a backward tipped pelvis. It seems pretty neutral to me. I do have a high hip and have been doing those exercises. I recently bought a book called. "8 steps to a pain free back" The general theme of her book is about untucking the pelvis, which seems like it would produce a FTP. After following the steps it does seem like I have less back pain, but have increased strange pain in the legs. Read my other post:

One thing that I would strongly urge is that you send in photos of yourself and have the LTBP guys analyze them.
In many, many cases, self-diagnosis can lead to a non-correct conclusion.
It is absolutely vital that before you start any of the exercises that you are 100% sure about whether you have a high right hip, high left hip forward tipped pelvis, backward tipped pelvis etc.
I know that when I first tried to diagnose myself a couple of years ago, I was wrong.
Very, very, very few of us start an exercise program with a truly neutral pelvis.
My therapist has worked on over 5,000 patients, and told me that he can count on the fingers of one hand, the number of people he has met with a truly neutral pelvis [ prior to any adjustments ].
Good Luck
