Sciatica Cushion

A sciatica cushion is a good way to relieve sciatica pain. The term sciatica refers to the inflammation and/or aggravation of the sciatic nerve, which is a nerve that runs or extends from the base of your spine, and goes all the way down your leg. The goal of a sciatica cushion or any cushion for back pain is to reduce or alleviate the stress and pressure to a certain area.

Please keep in mind that a sciatica cushion may help you get temporary relief, but it will not address the root causes of your sciatic pain.

Since sciatica is frequently the result of compression of the sciatic nerve in one way or another, reducing this compression on the spine by use of a cushion is a great option for natural treatment and sciatic pain relief.

Basically, sciatica is a form of radiculopathy. Radiculopathy is any pathological condition of the roots of the nerves. So, when you have sciatica, the reason you feel the pain in your leg is because the sciatic nerve runs from the lower back, down through your buttocks, and then right on down to the back of the leg to your knee.

Also, the common misconception that sciatica is a medical condition is incorrect. Contrary to popular belief, it is actually caused by a pre-existing condition that is already present in one’s body or more specifically, in one’s back.

Fortunately, sciatica itself is not a disease, but it is actually a symptom which can often be caused by numerous different conditions. I don’t mean to alarm you but I know you have heard from different sources such as friends, family, & doctors that sciatica is caused by piriformis syndrome, spinal stenosis, herniated discs, and many other scary conditions.

Medical research shows that sciatica is a more common health condition than people know. It is a problem that almost all individuals have experienced at some time in their life. Statistics state that sciatica is officially one of the most common types of lower back pain now, with the number of those experiencing it varying from about 15 to 40 percent of the population worldwide.

One of the most common causes of sciatica is a herniated disc. Also, as mentioned earlier another common cause is tightness in the piriformis muscles which is actually piriformis syndrome but has sciatica like symptoms and might lead to sciatica if left unchecked. Most sciatica is acute sciatica, which very frequently caused by a displaced or bulging dics within the spine. This is what presses against the nerve root, and in turn develops into immediately after (or sometimes delayed by a few days) a sudden, short term strain placed on the lumbar (or lower) section of the spinal column.

There are a few different movement and pain tests for doctors to perform to locate the precise area where the sciatica is creating the most pain for you. Frequently, sciatica is a difficult condition to diagnose and to treat because one must first find the underlying source of the pain which could be manifesting from a number of conditions. During this time, rest and the use of a sciatica cushion when you need to sit for long periods of time should help to ease the pain.

Treatment for sciatica is always focused on maximizing range of motion and mobility and returning you to your previous active lifestyle and independence. Sciatica is very often diagnosed and treated by a chiropractor, specializing in the spinal manipulations and the realignment of the spine.

If you have sciatica there is no need to panic or assume that you are just waiting around until time for a risky surgery to fix it. Some of the best treatments for sciatica are natural ones and are highly effective for many individuals who experience sciatica.

The treatment for sciatica can be any one or a combination of the following methods: physical therapy, chiropractic adjustments, anti-inflammation medications, sciatica cushion, inversion therapy, rest and the list goes on.
