Spinal injuries can be very serious, and should not be taken lightly. But, how does one know when surgery is the answer? Surgery of any kind should always be thoroughly evaluated before committing to any procedure. Even though many procedures are far less invasive than they used to be, surgery can still be very expensive, risky and not always effective.
Remember, only you can determine what type of treatment is right for you. Your doctor should always have your best interest in mind, but that doesn’t mean that he or she is making you aware of all the viable alternatives. The truth is, there are other alternatives to spinal surgery and many of them are much less expensive. Having said that, some conditions may require surgery as time or sense of urgency may be a factor. In severe cases, surgery may be the only thing that will prevent the condition from effecting major organ functions of the body.
