Spinal Surgery Alternatives

Spinal injuries can be very serious, and should not be taken lightly. But, how does one know when surgery is the answer? Surgery of any kind should always be thoroughly evaluated before committing to any procedure. Even though many procedures are far less invasive than they used to be, surgery can still be very expensive, risky and not always effective.

Remember, only you can determine what type of treatment is right for you. Your doctor should always have your best interest in mind, but that doesn’t mean that he or she is making you aware of all the viable alternatives. The truth is, there are other alternatives to spinal surgery and many of them are much less expensive. Having said that, some conditions may require surgery as time or sense of urgency may be a factor. In severe cases, surgery may be the only thing that will prevent the condition from effecting major organ functions of the body.

If you are considering spinal surgery but would also like to be aware of alternative treatments, please consider the following: (Keep in mind, we do not diagnose anyone and the information on this website is for informational purposes only)

Physical Therapy – Although a physical therapy program may sound like a lot of work, many people experience great results with specific stretches and exercises that are design to alleviate pain associated with back pain and conditions associated with the spine.

Inversion Therapy – This treatment may not be for everyone. However, people suffering from pinched nerves, herniated or bulging discs, rave about inversion therapy. Inverting enables gravity to decompress the spine and take pressure off of the nerves.

One of the problems with surgery is that it doesn’t always address the actual cause of your pain. It may address the symptoms of your pain but the underlying cause may still remain.

In addition to the above mentioned spinal surgery alternatives, it is highly important that you analyze your lifestyle as a whole. The best pain treatment approach involves the mind, body and diet.
