A recent online US survey found that most people (in relatively equal numbers) believe that the primary cause of obesity is either poor diet or lack of exercise. A far fewer number believe genetics is to blame.
Using data from five countries, similar trends were noted regarding the beliefs but another, somewhat surprising, trend was also revealed: those who believed diet was the primary cause of weight gain had lower BMIs (body mass index, a measure of body fat in relation to height and weight).[i]
Why might the belief that diet causes obesity cause you to weigh less? Because, the researchers suggested, it very well may impact how much (and what) you eat.
Are Your Beliefs Sabotaging Your Weight Loss Goals?
Think about it … if you firmly believe that weight gain is solely the result of not enough exercise, it gives you the carte blanche to eat whatever you want — a surefire recipe for weight gain in most people.
Case in point, a separate study found that people who believe that inheritance has a lot to do with causing obesity exercised less and ate fewer fruits and vegetables.[ii] Similarly, those who believe obesity is linked to a lack of exercise ate significantly more chocolates than those who linked it to diet.[iii]
So What Causes Weight Gain?
Diet, it would appear, is the usual culprit, and the research suggests that your diet may be easily sabotaged if you have a tendency to place the blame for your weight gain on a lack of exercise, or genetics, instead.
The good news is that it’s easy to change your beliefs about what causes weight gain. The truth is, multiple factors — including stress, lack of sleep, medications, environmental toxins and more — play a role, but it is very difficult to reach and maintain your ideal weight if you’re overeating virtually anything or indulging in too much sugar and other refined carbs (soda, bagels, cereal, pizza, ice cream, candy, mashed potatoes, fast food, even fruit juice … all of these goodies can quickly pack on the pounds).

ThinMistâ„¢ is a 100% natural way to safely boost your pituitary gland’s NATURAL release of HGH ‘youth hormones’… using a complex series of 7 known ‘HGH precursors.’
You simply take ThinMistâ„¢ three times each day by spraying it under your tongue, and as the ingredients slowly build up in your system, your body NATURALLY begins releasing more youthful levels of HGH, one of your body’s most powerful fat burners.
So in addition to getting the facts straight about the true causes of weight gain — you’ve got to adjust your beliefs to jive with the truth that what you eat is a major factor in what you weigh — give ThinMist a try. After all, why make losing weight harder than it needs to be?
