A Bridge between Eastern and Western Medicine
During the past 15 years John Howard has acquired diverse experience in Eastern and Western medicine. His acupuncture training was with the Maryland Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He also trained in Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture System and auriculotherapy.
In 1990, John started his Western medical career as a Lab Technician Florida. He then enlisted in the United States Navy and graduated with honors, as a Corpsman from the Hospital Corps School in Chicago, Illinois. He then learned Field Medicine and Trauma Training with the Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. After graduation, John went to the Naval Hospital in Orlando, Florida working in the Emergency Room and the Laboratory. He also attended the Emergency Medical Tech School (for EMT training) and passed the National Exam.
John then practiced in numerous clinics and specialties while stationed at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He was chosen to attend the Army’s School 18 Delta Special Operation Medicine, for training with members of the elite Delta Force. John graduated with the MOS 18 Delta. Next he went to the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences where he learned field surgical skills. John served honorably for six years in the United States Navy.
John’s path led him to George Washington University Hospital. He worked as an ER Trauma Technician. He also taught fourth year medical students minor trauma as an Assistant Adjunct Professor of Emergency Medicine at the medical school.
John is an avid runner. In 1998 he sustained a foot injury during a marathon race. John could not walk without a limp and had chronic pain. He went to several doctors, including a podiatrist but they were unable to help. As a last resort, John had cortisone shots which only provided temporary relief. The podiatrist then suggested John try Acupuncture.
After four treatments, John was able to run without a limp and was pain free! After such phenomenal results, John knew acupuncture was the road he was meant to travel. He has since helped many patients, bringing their lives back into a healthy balance. John specializes in the treatment women’s health issues, sports-related injuries, pain, infertility, complex syndromes and facial rejuvenation. He accepts most insurance plans.
