The Myths, Lies & True Causes of Migraines

Like an avalanche barreling down the side of a mountain, some problems in life can’t be stopped. For these, the only way to stop them from occurring is with prevention long beforehand.

So it goes with migraines.

That’s why you should be skeptical of anything that promises to get rid of your migraine while it is happening. For example, coffee. Some people say a cup of coffee is a great fix for a migraine. But coffee is a diuretic, which causes you to urinate and sweat. Caffeine also has toxins in it, not to mention the sugar, cream, and artificial sweeteners often added to your morning cup. All of these things lead to dehydration and elevated sugar levels, which makes coffee a poor choice for someone looking to avoid migraines.

True Causes of Migraines

There are many reasons why we get migraines. But by and large they are triggered by deficiencies. This is good news because it means with just a few simple adjustments you can be migraine free for good.

A few common triggers:

Dehydration – Your body is 70 percent water and your brain is over 80 percent water. Not enough water makes your head hurt.

Oxygen deprivation – Your brain needs oxygen to run. But if you aren’t breathing properly (very common), you could be missing out on as much as 60% of the oxygen you could be getting.

Sleep deprivation – One of the causes of migraines is a deficiency of serotonin, so it’s logical that not getting enough sleep will contribute to migraines.

These three deficiencies are known causes of headaches.
