What is Spinal Stenosis?Heavy Metal Legend Learns the Hard Way!

What is spinal stenosis? Your spine consists of 26 bones in your back that protect your spinal cord and enable you to stand straight and bend over. Spinal stenosis is when the spine is narrowed, pressuring the spinal cord and nerves and causing often intense back pain, neck pain, and pain running down the leg.

Causes of spinal stenosis can include arthritis, scoliosis, aging, spinal tumors, excess fluoride in the body, and injuries … including, as one legendary heavy metal musician recently found out, hard-rockin’ headbanging!

Dave Mustaine, who is now 50 years old, is the founder, guitarist, and lead singer of the American heavy metal band Megadeth, and a former lead guitarist for Metallica. Mustaine has battled spinal stenosis and points to headbanging as a cause of that spinal stenosis — for him and likely for other heavy metal “thrash” musicians.

“That whole headbanging thing that came around — it’s hurt a lot of us,” Mustaine said. “What is headbanging anyway? It’s kind of like chronic whiplash syndrome, isn’t it?”

Maybe you already know what headbanging is. Maybe you engaged in it yourself. Maybe you still are. (And IF you still are, it must be said: the other back and neck pain experts and I here do NOT recommend it!)

If you don’t know what it is, or if you need a refresher, first check out the brief Dave Mustaine headbanging video below. (You may want to turn your volume down … or depending on your taste in music, up!)

You’ll quickly understand how headbanging — however enjoyable some may find it — can lead to spinal stenosis and a host of other neck and back pain conditions.

And THEN for a smile check out the…

You read that right — see for yourself below! But again, we DO NOT recommend this for anyone. (If you are a senior and you’re tempted, refrain! They’ve already done it for you.)

I bought your teeter inversion table. I have used it every night and have gotten some relief for my two vertebrae and my stenosis. It just doesn’t last very long. My neck is doing quite well now. I just don’t see much support for us buyers of your product. i have played the disc and am doing all that is on there what additional things can I do? You don’t have very good follow up for your customers. We have invested quite a bit of money and I for one expect far more info from you or at least your staff. You are always sending me other information on a variety of stuff to buy. I say how about supporting us buyers with more training. I have received nothing from you about the inversion table further information and training. What say ye?

Frontman Tom Araya of Slayer (another one of “The Big Four” bands)beat Dave Mustaine to that surgery for stenosis by 18 months. Should be very interesting to see how many more of these aging Metal Gods have to have that surgery. FYI, I’m a 40 yr. old Metalhead myself and former Metal musician but quit the headbanging over 10 yrs ago. 🙂
